I have been reading a lot of updates with regards to the Fukushima Daiichi Units 1 and 3, however, have not been able to get any information with regards to Fukushima Diani Units. Does anyone have updates on those? Also, does anyone know the contamination levels surrounding the Diaiichi Units?

@Chris Yes, the reactor is subcritical, and has been for almost 3 days now. So physics states that the reaction will slowly come to a stop. As long as the pumping and venting mechanisms are not compromised, there will not be a catastrophe and after a few days the reactor will be cold (well, in terms of reactors that is, still quite hot but not hot enough to meltdown).

@Sponge Bob Nuclear Pants The Daini reactors seem to be clipping along much like Daiichi 1. Again, if there were any issues with the reactors the IAEA/TEPCO/the Govt would have given an update. At this stage everything seems to be cooling off. I think that should also apply to the fuel pools at Daiichi, although that seems to be the biggest issue at this time if they can't get the power restored soon.

@ Shadia Ismail: Thank you for the pic. It does indeed tell a thousand words. The high radiation is from slow decaying isotopes, such as the ones resulting from Uranium decay. Otherwise the there would be no need for isolation as the exposure would quickly become negligible.
